THE DOWNS GAA NOTES Sep 4th 2023
Junior Quarter-Final
The Clarke’s Bar Junior 1 quarter-final took place on Sunday last in Moate GAA grounds. Despite a fighting performance the lads unfortunately exited the championship on a final score-line of 1-16 to 1-13. The concession of a goal before half time and unlucky not to convert a number of their own chances left the lads short on the scoreboard albeit playing a positive brand of football throughout. Hard luck to Padraig Corcoran and his management team on a great effort.
Underage Results
The U13 Black and Amber teams were both in action this week. The Division 4 team suffered a comprehensive defeat to a strong Delvin side away while the Division 1 team were unlucky not to earn even a share of the spoils against St. Lomans at home in a very tight game.
The U7’s, U9’s and U11’s travelled to Ballymore on Saturday morning to play the next phase of Go-Games blitzes. Many thanks to all the parents for travelling and especially all the players for giving a great account of themselves against tough opposition.
U15 Goal-Keeping Session
Many thanks to Ciarán McCormack for taking our U15 footballers for a very informative goal-keeping/defending mini session this week. His time and effort is very much appreciated.
LGFA
The Senior Ladies suffered their first defeat in the Village Barn Senior Championship this week. They faced current county champions Milltown at home on Thursday evening. A very evenly matched game between both sides ended in a marginal victory for the visitors. The girls gave a great account of themselves and are still very much in the hunt for a knock-out place Final score: The Downs 0-06 Milltown 1-6. Round 6 is scheduled for this week against St. Mary’s Rochfortbridge but is yet to be confirmed. Keep an eye on our social media pages for further details during the week.
The Minors had a good win over Clann Gaels on Tuesday evening at home making it 3 wins from 3 in the championship. Well done to all involved.
