The U12’s continued their good run of form in the Garrycastle Tournament on Tuesday evening with a win against a very competitive Moate side. Knock-out stages of this tournament are also to be confirmed.
Pat Walsh Memorial
The annual Pat Walsh memorial tournament took place in a resplendent Molloy Park on Sunday last and what a success it was. Superbly lead by Ciaran McCormack and Paddy Kenny – no stone was left unturned for this wonderfully ran event. Between pitch allocation, provisions of food, referees, first aid to managing teams, a huge amount of volunteers turned out to lend a hand ensuring the event was as successful as it was. Many thanks to all clubs for attending and contributing to this festival of football in glorious weather conditions. Clubs in attendance were; Mullingar Shamrocks, St. Mary’s Ardee, Ballivor, Garrycastle, Killucan, Gowna and Killoe Óg. We hope you enjoyed your day as much as we did here at The Downs. Congratulations to all the players on a magnificent display of skill. We thank the Walsh family for being in attendance and for their continued support. For ourselves – our U11’s did us immensely proud putting in a fantastic performance in all their games – the future for this bunch of lads certainly looks bright. Na Dúnta Abú!!
LGFA
The 6th round of the Village Barn Senior A championship took place on Sunday in Multyfarnham against St Marys Rochfortbridge. Played in warm humid conditions, and with 15 of our squad having played camogie championship the previous day, our girls gave a great account of themselves and battled hard throughout. At half time the score was level at 3-5 apiece. In the second half St Marys pulled away to emerge winners on a 4-11 to 3-9 score-line. Round 7 is away to Garrycastle next Saturday 16th Sep at 5pm. A win for our girls will secure a place in the semi-finals.
The U12’s played out the penultimate game of their season on Thursday evening at home against Coralstown-Kinnegad, With no less than 28 girls togged out on the night, two teams took to the filed in glorious weather conditions putting in another fantastic performance. Well done to coaches, players and parents on a great year’s work.
The U12 girls also held a cake sale on Sunday afternoon during the Pat Walsh Tournament to raise funds for The Downs LGFA Club. Well done to all involved and many thanks to all that supported it.
