Scór Iarmhí Concert
The Downs GAA hosted the recent Scór Iarmhí concert last Saturday in conjunction with the Westmeath Quid Games Fundraiser. A great night was had by all. Many thanks to all the volunteers that helped on the night.
On the subject of Scór, congratulations to our senior set dancers Amy Dagg, Robyn Dagg, Emma Dagg, Erica Hynes, Katie McGrath, Rebecca Kelly, Clíodhna Murray and Neasa Mangan Lynch who qualified for the Leinster final having danced in the semi-final in Allenwood last Sunday.
Healthy Clubs
We were honoured as a club this week to be awarded with the Foundation Level Healthy Clubs award very aptly accepted by our Healthy Club Officer Olivia Corcoran and Rose Corcoran by the Leinster Councils Health and Well-being chairperson Dave Murray at the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise. Olivia has lead the initiative within the club over the last number of years and is a well deserving recipient of the award on behalf of the club.
Trunk or Treat
The Downs Playground Group’s very popular Trunk or Treat event is back by popular demand this Sunday October 29th with festivities kicking off at 4 p.m. With prizes to be won for the spookiest car/best Halloween costume/best carved pumpkin, followed by Halloween movie at 6 p.m. it’s an event not to be missed. Tickets are €25 and can be purchased by contacting the following number: 0866004993.
U16 Girls Semi-final
The U16 girls unfortunately exited the championship last week to a strong Milltownpass side. Try as they might, The Downs could not close the gap sufficiently on Milltownpass lead with the black and white clad team becoming deserved winners. This group of girls have made excellent progress this year and will no doubt be back again next year.
Strength & Conditioning
Strength & conditioning classes resume in the clubhouse with Mickey-Dan Murtagh on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.30-8-30 p.m. Beginning on October 3rd at a cost of €10 per session – all welcome.
