On Saturday evening at home the Division 1 side took on Shandonagh GAA. Goals from Kevin O’Sullivan and Liam Moran were ultimately the difference between the 2 sides on this occasion with Storm Kathleen’s strong wind also playing its part in this game. Final score The Downs 2-10 Shandonagh 0-11
The Division 5 side were at home to Castledaly on Sunday morning losing out by the smallest of margins on a final score of Castledaly 1-04 The Downs 0-6.
Boys Division 1 Féile Final
Our U15 Feile squad were in action over the weekend. On Saturday morning we hosted Killucan in stormy conditions in the quarter final. In a close game we got over the line by 4 points. We then moved on to play Shandonagh in the semi-final in Shandonagh at 12pm.Weather conditions didn’t improve & playing against the wind for the first half it was level pegging at half time. A closely fought 2nd half went down to wire but we emerged with a 2-point win. All roads led to Cusack Park on Sunday where we played in our first Division 1 Feile final in a long time versus St Lomans. Playing with a strong wind in the first half we held a narrow 4 point lead. St Lomans started the 2nd half very well with a couple of goals & well taken long range points. St Lomans held out for victory in the end by 2.08 to 1.02.Great effort by all players over the 2 days. Thanks to coaches Steven, Joe, Paddy & Sean.
LGFA Results
The Division 3 ladies were in action on Sunday morning in The Downs against Loughnavalley. The ladies put in a strong performance to earn a victory by the slightest of margins. Final score: The Downs 1-06 Loughnavalley 1-05
Underage Results
Our under 16’s unfortunatley lost out to a strong Shandonagh side last Monday evening at home on a score-line of 2-12 to 0-12. Hard luck to all.
Both U14 teams were in action this week. The Division 1 side travelled the short distance to Springfield suffering a defeat. The lads battled well in the second half just coming up short. Final score was 2-10 to 2-06.
The U4 Division 4 side had a convincing win over the same opposition (Mullingar Shamrocks) on the same evening at home. A great performance by the lads. Well done to all.
Easter Camp
Our Club Easter camp was another huge success this year. We had approximately sixty children in total in attendance. This would not be possible without our wonderful coaches that gave up their time during their Easter break. Coaches were: Grace Mc Donald Corcoran, Aoibheann Flynn, Odhran Donohoe, Niall Bardon, Matthew Maguire, Katie Kearns, Alannagh Corroon, Lily Reid, Sean Colgan, Daniel Kenna, Sean Corroon & Cian Colgan, Anne-Marie Corroon, Bernie Corroon, Lucy Power and Joe Corroon. Many thanks also to Olivia Corcoran for first aid attendance. We thank Buckley’s SuperValu for kindly sponsoring Easter Eggs for all the attendees. Lastly thanks you to the GPO committee members for background work to organise the camp.
