Round 2 Results
The Division 3 side welcomed Multyfarnham GAA to The Downs last Tuesday evening. The Downs started brightly in this opening fixture with Shane Carroll registering the first score of the game. The first half saw both The Downs and our opponents St Malachys trading scores but St. Malachys struck for the opening goal of the game to open up a 5-point lead and that’s how the first half ended leaving them 5 to the good at the break. Malachys started the scoring in the second half to push out the lead but The downs responded well and by the 45th minute mark we were just 2 points in arrears but unfortunately on the day that was a good as it got. Malachys took control of the game in the closing stages and struck for another green flag which ended our hopes of getting anything from this game. For what was the opening game of the year for this group of players there were plenty of positives. The final score was The Downs 0-11 St. Malachys 2-17. Special mention to Conor Daly, Thomas Kearns & Sean Corroon who made their competitive adult debuts on the night.
The Division 1 side continued their winning ways away to Caulry last Saturday in a hard fought battle. A first half goal by Ben Harte left The Downs in the ascendency by a goal at the break on a score-line of 1-04 to 0-4. The second half was also a tight affair. The difference being a Charlie Drumm goal leaving the bare minimum between the sides when the final whistle sounded. The final score was The Downs 2-11 Caulry 1-13. Their third round will be played next Saturday away to Athlone.
