Round 3 Men’s ACFL Results
On Tuesday last our Division 3 side played their 3rd league game of the year as we welcomed Maryland to Breedon Molloy Park. On a fine evening for football under the lights and in a high scoring affair, it was The Downs who started the scoring through the boot of Sean Colgan in the opening minute of the game. The Downs got the better of the exchanges in the opening half and goals from Shane Carroll and Kevin Smullen saw the lads into a 2-14 to 1-10 lead at the half time break. The second half started with Maryland opening the scoring and both sides traded scores in the proceeding moments before Maryland hit their purple patch. By the end of the 3rd quarter, Maryland were in the lead by the minimum after 2 goals in quick succession. The Downs lads rallied well in the last quarter and showed great resilience to pull themselves back into the game and get back in front once more. Tom Tuite finished the scoring on the evening with a score from a free to earn us the 2 league points that were on offer. Full time score The Downs 2-24 Maryland 3-17.
LGFA Results
We had both our ladies’ teams in action this week in the opening round of the league. The Division 3 side were away to Milltown on Saturday afternoon. The girls put in a strong performance to earn themselves a comprehensive win. Final score: The Downs 2-12 Milltown 0-4. Our Division 1 side also came out on the right side of their encounter with St. Josephs on a final score-line of The Downs 5-05 St. Josephs 1-4. A great start for both teams.
