LGFA Results
The U16 girls continued their winning streak in the league this week with a strong win over St. Mary’s Rochfortbridge on Wednesday evening last. The girls put in a battling performance to come out on top on this occasion. That concludes the league for these girls and we turn our attention to the championship in the coming months.
The U14 girls travelled over to Tang in the U14 league Division1 where they were narrowly defeated by Goldsmiths Girls on a scoreline of The Downs 3-07 Goldsmiths 2 – 12. Well done on a great effort girls.
We had two terrific teams at U10s and U8s, playing in Bunbrosna on Saturday morning for Go Games blitz. We are so proud of the effort and the skills the girls displayed. The future is bright for ladies' football with these determined players. Thanks to our coaches & FLO's and the supportive parents and grandparents who came and cheered on the Black and Amber and thanks to Bunbrosna for being great hosts.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Billy Moffat and the Westmeath U20’s who have won the All-Ireland B U20 competition last Wednesday evening after an epic battle and finishing on penalties against Monaghan in Breffini Park. Well done to all involved.
Cumann na mBunscol
Congratulations to all our superstars on competing in the Cumann na mBunscol finals this week in both football and hurling. The Downs NS, Holy Family and Gainstown NS all represented their schools and clubs heroically in Cusack Park. There were wins for The Downs (hurling) and Gainstown (girls football) and while the others didn’t win, they did themselves very proud.
New York GAA Visits The Downs
New York hurlers with our own Adam Loughlin were welcomed to The Downs facilities to prepare for their Lory Meagher Cup semi-final on Sunday last. A massive thanks to all for their help in organising and hosting the event for the New York GAA senior hurlers. We were delighted to be of assistance to them and are extremely grateful for their kind comments in regards to our facilities.
