The Junior B final is rescheduled for Tuesday December 16th in The Downs at 8pm against Tubberclair. Best of luck to all involved.

The main Christmas draw will take place on Friday January 2nd in The Clubhouse.

The Downs LGFA Club held their AGM last Thursday December 11th.  A full agenda was completed in a very business-like manner with excellent reports presented by chairman, secretary and treasurer. We thank all for their attendance and wish all the incoming committee the best of luck in their roles for the year. 

 

On Wednesday 17th, the club will host a memorial mass in memory of deceased members of our club and community at 7.30 p.m. in the clubhouse. All are welcome. Refreshments for all afterwards.

 

Ribbon of Remembrance will take place at the clubhouse on Sunday 21st from 2pm to 4pm. All proceeds will go towards the upkeep of the parish.

The Club shop will be open this Friday December 19th from 6-15 to 7-30. Half-price sale on most items. This will be your last chance to purchase items before Christmas. 

Huge congratulations to two former Downs players Cormac Dalton and Jack O’Leary on an historic performance at the Senior Men’s European Cross Country taking the Irish team into the silver medal position, their first time on the podium in 25 years. What an achievement!!

Maura O Connor (Nee Monaghan)

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Maura O Connor formerly of The Downs and late of Sarsfieldstown, Killucan. Maura was one of three daughters of the late Joe and Jane Monaghan of Newdown, The Downs.

Like her parents and siblings Maura was a lifelong supporter of The Downs GAA and had a particular grá for Scór where her daughter Geraldine and her late husband Paddy were active participants in dancing, novelty acts and instrumental music over many years and garnered many titles for the club over that period. While Maura wasn’t an active participant on the stage she insured that all the participants were suitable sustained with her fabulous baking. It’s no wonder that, back in the day, we had so many participants practicing in old Downs Hall, with the added incentive of delicious goodies supplied by Maura and many others. To Maura’s family relatives and friends we extend sincere sympathy. May she Rest in Peace.
