ACFL Round 5 Results
The Division 5 team had a good win this week against Kilbeggan on a score-line of The Downs 1-09 Kilbeggan 0-10.
U15 Féile
We had a great showing at the U15 boys Division 1 Féile last Sunday in Athlone GAA. The panel made a fine effort to reach the Division 1 final only to be beaten narrowly by Athlone GAA. In the earlier games we were defeated by Athlone but had an excellent win against St. Lomans. Thanks to all the organisers for a great day’s football.
LGFA Ladies
Both ladies squads were in action this weekend. Our Division 3 team suffered a heavy defeat against a strong St. Pauls side while our Division 1 team earned their victory against Mullingar Shamrocks on Sunday morning. Losing by a point at half time on a score-line of 0-9 to 2-04, The Downs girls had to dig deep going a point up late in the game. From a good turnover the girls worked a great move with Olivia Glynn getting the winning goal giving The Downs a 4 point win. Final score: The Downs 1-13 to 2-06 making it 3 from 3 in the league.
Underage Girls results
Na Dúnta hosted the first Go Games blitz of the season on Saturday morning in Breedon Molloy Park. We were delighted to welcome Milltown, Killucan, Ballynacargy and Mullingar Shamrocks U8 and U10 girls to The Downs. It was, unusually for the year that's in it a glorious sunny morning and the standard of football didn't disappoint. It was fantastic to see the level of skill from all teams on the day. Westmeath LGFA has a bright future ahead. Na Dúnta had 5 teams on the go and a special shout out to the girls who played their very first blitz today. They were brilliant
Hard luck to our u16 girls who suffered a heavy defeat to St. Lomans in the first round of the league during the week. Better days ahead for this group.
