ACFL Round 7 Results

On Friday evening our senior men welcomed Caulry to Breedon Molloy Park for Round 7 of the Division 1 football league. On an ideal evening for football it was the visitors who started the brightest registering the first two scores. The sides then traded a couple of points each in the proceeding 10 minutes to leave the visitors leading by 0-4 to 0-2 after 15 minutes. As The Downs lads started to gain some momentum a two pointed effort from Ben Harte dropped short and was pounced on by The downs forwards where it eventually found Philip Martin who finished calmly to the back of the net to put The Downs into the lead for the first time in the game on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-5. In a blistering next 10 minutes, The Downs lads outscored the visitors by nine points to one with the pick of the bunch a fine two pointer from the boot of midfielder Billy Moffatt to leave the halftime scoreline reading The Downs 1-13 caulry 0-5. The second period started fast and within a few minutes Caulry found the back of The Downs net to cut the gap to 8 points, though The Downs lads never panicked with Ciaran Nolan leading the attack from the defence and pointed twice in quick succession to minimise the damage of the Caulry goal. In what was a professionally carried out second half of the game by the black and amber clad outfit. Eoin Mullin who was introduced from the bench on the 40th minute finished with an impressive haul of  0-4 to his name. Caulry to their credit never gave up and finished the scoring on the night with a fine two pointer score. On this occasion the downs ran out winners on a score-line of The downs 1-22 Caulry 1-12. Special mention to Finn Raeside who made his Divsion 1 debut off the bench in the second half of the game.
