The Division 3 team came away with a share of the spoils against Multy GAA in an evenly contested game. Despite losing at half time, the lads managed to get to level pegging in the second half on a final score Multy 0-15 The Downs 1-12.
The Division 1 team weren’t so lucky. Their opposition in round 8 was Mullingar Shamrocks. In a game that ebbed and flowed it was Shamrocks who came away as eventual winners by a solitary point. Despite the result, it was great to see Darragh Egerton return to football following a lengthy injury. Final score Mullingar Shamrocks 1-09 The Downs 0-11

Leinster Champions
What a memorable weekend for Westmeath football. We were crowned Leinster Champions in both the men’s and women’s championships over the weekend. First up was the ladies’ final against Wexford in Newbridge in the TG4 Leinster Intermediate final. Following a clinical performance the ladies of the county claimed the Leinster championship in fine fashion. Congratulations to all involved especially our own representatives Lucy Power, Niamh Nolan and Ellen Taite.
Not to be outdone by the ladies the men had a magnificent win in the Leinster final against a much fancied Dublin GAA on Sunday afternoon claiming the Delaney Cup for the first time since 2004. We are immensely proud of our representatives on the squad Charlie Drumm, Kevin O’Sullivan, Ian Martin, Luke Loughlin (inj) and Jonathan Lynam (inj) aswell as kitman Paddy Walsh. Congratulaions to Mark McHugh and his management team on a wonderous victory for The Lake County.
Speedy Recovery
We wish a speedy recovery to two senior players Luke Loughlin and Niamh Rowan who both underwent surgery for a similar injury over the weekend. We hope their recovery goes as planned and we hope to see them both back in action as soon as possible.
