We had a quick turnaround to championship from our league finals this week. The U16 Division 1 team travelled to Athlone to start off their campaign coming away with a win by a two point margin. Our Division 5 team put in a fighting display coming from 5 points down to win by 5 points at home to the same opposition.
Our U14’s Divison 1 side reversed the result of the league final against St. Lomans with an impressive display particularly in the first half in Lakepoint Park on Wednesday evening. Our Division 5 team however lost out to a far superior St. Paul’s team. There will be better days ahead for those lads. Well done to all on a good start to the championship.
U16 Girls
Our U16 girls started off their Division 1 championship campaign at home to Goldsmiths on Tuesday evening last. Despite a good display we came out on the wrong side of the result. However, the performance was encouraging for the remainder of the campaign.
Congratulations
Congratulations to the Westmeath Ladies especially our own Lucy Power, Ellen Taite and Niamh Nolan who qualified for the All-Ireland Intermediate semi-final last Sunday in Cusack Park against a galant Wexford side. Coming from behind at half-time the girls powered through to claim their place in the semi-final against Roscommon in the coming weeks. Congratulations to all involved.
