Junior B Result
The Junior B panel managed to secure themselves a draw on Monday evening in the championship against Milltownpass. The lads showed huge character to end with honours even. With a very small panel and an injury to James Drumm ten minutes into the 2nd half, the lads showed tremendous character to leave with a share of the spoils. They conceded two late goals and had to bounce back by kicking the last two scores, so a lot of credit to all the players involved. Final score: Na Dúnta 3-12 to 2-15 Miltownpass.
Senior Ladies League Final
It was a landmark day for Na Dúnta Ladies on Sunday as the club contested its first ever Division 1 Ladies League Final, taking on a strong Milltown side in Shandonagh. Milltown settled quickly and were sharp in front of the posts from the outset, building an early advantage as Na Dúnta found scores difficult to come by during the opening period. At the interval, Milltown led by 0-12 to 0-4. The Downs emerged for the second half with renewed determination and produced a superb response. Displaying great character, skill and teamwork, they gradually chipped away at the deficit with some excellent passages of play and relentless effort all over the field. As the game entered the closing stages, Na Dúnta had reduced the gap to just three points and were firmly back in contention. The girls pushed hard for an equalising score and were unfortunate not to be awarded a goal opportunity in the dying moments that could have levelled the contest. Despite the narrow defeat, the performance and spirit shown by the team in the second half was a credit to everyone involved. While the result did not go our way, the club is immensely proud of this panel of players and their management team for reaching this historic final and representing Na Dúnta with such distinction. Final Score: Na Dúnta 0-10
Milltown 0-13. As attention now turns to the upcoming Championship campaign, there is great optimism about what this talented group can achieve in the weeks ahead. Acknowledgements: The club would like to express its sincere thanks to Buckley’s SuperValu Mullingar for providing fantastic match-day packs for all members of the panel, David Smyth Catering for supplying a post-match meal for the team, and Smiddy’s Bar for hosting the players after the game. Your generosity and support are greatly appreciated and play a vital role in helping our teams both on and off the field.
