The junior side recorded a comprehensive win over Moate All-Whites last week away from home, continuing their good run of form recently.

The senior ladies added another win to their senior championship campaign on Thursday evening last at home. The ladies turned in a good performance to add to their win against St. Marys the previous week. St. Josephs started the better of the two heading into an early lead on a score-line of 0-05 to 0-01 with the aid of a slight breeze. The Downs settled thereafter and were on level terms by half-time. A much improved second half saw The Downs pushed on to run into an 12 point lead by the end of the game on a score-line of The Downs 4-15 St. Josephs 1-12

The junior ladies travelled to Moate on Friday evening where they were met with a strong Moate contingent. There were some excellent passages of play from our girls but ultimately it was Moate who were the stronger team on the night. 

The U14 boys suffered defeat away from home in Moate on Wednesday evening last. A lively Moate side overturned the black and ambers in the final game of the group stages. The lads now face a quarter final against St. Lomans in the coming weeks. Final score Moate 4-11 to The Downs 4-08 

The U16’s were also on the receiving end of a strong Lilliput side on Monday evening last. This too was the final group stage game. They now face Mullingar Shamrocks in their quarter final.

The minors had their final group stage game on Thursday evening at home to Mullingar Shamrocks. Despite a positive start, it was Mullingar Shamrocks that finished the stronger taking all the points on offer. Final score Mullingar Shamrocks 3-15 The Downs 2-12 

The U16 girls competed in very evenly contested game on Tuesday evening last at home to St. Lomans. Our girls gave a very good account of themselves however St. Lomans held on to a one point lead to finish the winners. We now face the same opposition in the Division 1 quarter final next Tuesday August 25th in Lakepoint Park at 6.30 p.m. All support welcome. 

We had a fantastic morning on Saturday the 22nd of August when we welcomed Loughnavalley, CFCW, Ballycamoyle and Mullingar Shamrocks to The Downs GAA club. Over the course of the two hours over 150 girls demonstrated their fantastic skills, team work and determination to the big crowd gathered on the sidelines. Thank you to all who were involved in organising the blitz which ran like clockwork. A big thank you to Lucy, Katie, Ciara, Isobeil, Aoibhinn who gave up their Saturday morning to referee the games. And of course a big thank you to all the coaches and players from the 5 teams for all their dedication and hard work.
