ACFL League Fixtures Round 4 2025

Tuesday March 25th: Division 1 The Downs V Kinnegad (Home) 8 pm

Round 4 Men’s ACFL Results

Our Division 3 side travelled to Streamstown on Saturday afternoon to play St Joseph’s for round 4 of the league. In wet and windy conditions, The Downs played against the elements in the first half. St Joseph’s started the brighter and were 3 points to the good after 10 minutes. Our lads put in a massive effort and scores from Shane Carroll and Cian McCourt kept us within touching distance. St. Jospehs struck for a goal just before halftime to leave the halftime score at 1-5 to 0-4 in favour of the hosts. Aided by the breeze in the second half, The Downs started the brighter with Ben Harte scoring a 2 pointer a couple of minutes after the restart.  The Downs dominated the 3rd quarter and goals from Shane Carroll & a superb solo effort from Tom Tuite had the downs ahead by 4 with 10 minutes to play. St Joseph’s however did not go away and raised another green flag of their own together with a couple of quick fire points to see them take the lead. Once again our lads showed great resilience. A fine point from Sean Colgan from a tight angle and a free from Shane Carroll along with some brilliant defensive work pushed us over the line on the day by the bare minimum on score - line of The Downs 2-10 St Joseph’s 2-9.

Go-Games Return

The first of the Go-Games got underway this weekend with The Downs hosting 4 teams from Mullingar Shamrocks. The Downs themselves entered two enthusiastic teams performing excellently well despite the inclement weather with some of the panel playing their first game of U8 football. All the games were contested in a great spirit with plenty of talent on show for the spectators.
